What is the Swallowtail Race about?
Participants will be racing in their teams to spot the Swallowtail butterflies.
The aim of the race is to spot as many individuals and as many species of the Swallowtail butterflies.
When & Where is the race?
2 August 2025, Saturday.
Race timing: 8am – 3pm @ Anywhere in Singapore, depending on the teams’ choice
Award & Closing Ceremony: 3pm – 6pm @ Mapletree Business City
Who can participate in the race?
Open to the public
3 to 5 pax per team
Each team has to register with at least 1 experienced butterfly watcher.
If the team does NOT have an experienced butterfly watcher, NSS will help the team pair up with experienced butterfly watcher(s).
Regardless, each team has to consist of 3 – 5 members when registering
Note: Participants must be aged 12 and above

Registration closes once 15 teams have registered, or by 12 July 2025 (Saturday), whichever comes first.
Once there is no vacancy, people who are keen to register will be directed to a Waitlist Form. We will follow up should there be a vacancy.
Categories
All teams will participate under the same race category. There will only be different winning categories.
Winning categories are:
Best swallowtail photograph [1 team]
Top 3 teams with the highest number of points. Total number of points calculated by a point system, accounting for both number of individuals and species. [3 teams]
Why a Swallowtail Race?
To raise awareness about butterflies in Singapore
To celebrate one of the most charismatic groups of butterflies – the Swallowtail butterflies
To commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Common Rose as the popularly voted National Butterfly, in lieu of SG60
Additional information
This race is organised by Nature Society Singapore and the Butterfly & Insect Group of NSS
Flag-off could be either physical (location TBC), or virtual. To be confirmed.
Teams who have successfully registered will receive a confirmation email.
To gear up for the race, please feel free to participate in the upcoming Swallowtail Butterfly Walk on 6 July at the Singapore Botanic Gardens.
